spiked apple cider sangria - featured image

This spiked apple cider sangria started as a happy accident and became a go-to Halloween party trick. It’s a light, crisp, and spiced cocktail made with white wine, apple cider, brandy, and fresh fruit, perfect for impressing guests with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) brandy
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange liqueur (triple sec or Grand Marnier)
  • 1 large apple (Honeycrisp or Fuji), cored and sliced
  • 1 orange, sliced thin
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3–4 whole cloves (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) pomegranate seeds
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)
  • Extra apple slices (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for stirring)

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice your fruit. Core the apple and cut it into thin wedges or rounds. Slice the orange into thin rounds, then cut each round in half. Set aside.
  2. Combine the liquids. In a large pitcher, pour in the entire bottle of white wine, the apple cider, the brandy, and the orange liqueur. Give it a gentle stir.
  3. Add the fruit and spices. Drop in the apple slices, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and cloves (if using). Stir again gently to distribute everything.
  4. Chill for at least 2 hours. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate. Overnight is ideal for best flavor.
  5. Add pomegranate seeds right before serving. Stir them in just before guests arrive so they float at the top.
  6. Serve cold. Ladle the sangria into glasses, making sure each glass gets some fruit and a few pomegranate seeds. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick or an extra apple slice if desired.

Notes

For best flavor, make the sangria the night before and chill overnight. Use a dry white wine to avoid a sugar bomb. Toast cinnamon sticks in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side to enhance spice flavor. If using a thick-skinned orange, remove as much white pith as possible to avoid bitterness. For a Halloween presentation, add a few drops of red food coloring or freeze plastic spiders in an ice ring.
