Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa (medium heat)
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce (iceberg)
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (for piping the web)
  • 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • Additional sliced black olives (for spider legs)
  • Tortilla chips (scoop-shaped)
  • Optional garnishes: chopped cilantro, sliced jalapeños, extra sour cream

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, for 6-8 minutes until fully cooked. Drain excess fat. Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water; simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Spread the softened cream cheese evenly across the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish or large pie plate using an offset spatula or butter knife.
  3. Spread 1 cup sour cream over the cream cheese layer, then spoon the salsa over the sour cream. Do not mix.
  4. Sprinkle the cooled seasoned beef evenly over the salsa layer.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded Mexican blend cheese generously over the beef.
  6. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced black olives.
  7. Create the spiderweb: Fill a piping bag or zip-top bag with 1/2 cup sour cream. Snip a small corner off the bag. Pipe a circle in the center of the dip, then pipe concentric circles radiating outward about 1 inch apart (4-5 circles total). Using a toothpick or skewer, drag lines from the center circle outward through all circles to create the web effect. Wipe the toothpick clean between each drag.
  8. Make the spiders: For each spider, place a whole black bean on the web as the body. Arrange 8 small slices of black olive around the bean as legs (4 on each side). Make 3-4 spiders scattered across the web.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 15-20 minutes before serving. Can be refrigerated for up to 4 hours if made ahead.

Notes

For best presentation, pipe the sour cream web and add spiders just before serving. Use room temperature cream cheese for easy spreading. Drain black beans well to prevent runny web. Use scoop-shaped chips for sturdy dipping. Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours but texture degrades.
