Easy Witch’s Finger Pretzels: Best Spooky Halloween Treat

Easy Witchs Finger Pretzel Rods - featured image

These creepy yet delicious witch’s finger pretzel rods are made with just three simple ingredients—pretzel rods, almond slivers, and green icing. They’re quick, easy, and perfect for Halloween parties, classroom celebrations, or a fun family movie night.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy ones)
  • 24 almond slivers (thin and curved)
  • 1 tube green decorating icing (with writing tip)
  • Optional: red gel food coloring (for bloody cuticle effect)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet or large plate with parchment paper. Have almond slivers ready in a small bowl.
  2. If using green icing from a tube, remove the cap and squeeze a small amount onto wax paper to test the flow. If too thick, microwave for 5 seconds (without metal cap) to soften.
  3. Hold a pretzel rod by one end. Starting about 1 inch from the other end, squeeze a line of green icing along the length of the rod, leaving the very tip (about 1/2 inch) bare. Use a back-and-forth motion to cover evenly.
  4. Immediately press an almond sliver onto the bare tip of the pretzel rod, pointed end outward, so it extends slightly past the end like a long witch nail. Press gently to adhere.
  5. While icing is still wet, use the tip of a butter knife or back of a spoon to gently press 2-3 horizontal lines into the icing where knuckles would be, spaced about 1/2 inch apart.
  6. Optional: Dab a tiny bit of red gel food coloring at the base of the almond sliver where it meets the pretzel for a bloody cuticle effect.
  7. Place finished pretzel rod on parchment-lined sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzel rods. Let set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes, or refrigerate for 5-10 minutes until icing is firm.

Notes

Don’t use thin pretzel sticks—they break easily. Work in batches of 4-5 so icing doesn’t dry before adding almonds and knuckle lines. For nut-free version, use candy corn or dried apricot pieces instead of almonds. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days; do not refrigerate. Can be frozen for up to 1 month.
