  • 6-inch (15cm) bamboo skewers
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and blueberries under cold water, then pat dry thoroughly.
  2. Slice the cucumber into 1/4-inch (6mm) thick rounds, ensuring they’re uniform for steady stacking.
  3. Gently dry the mozzarella balls with paper towels to prevent excess moisture.
  4. In a small bowl, toss the mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Set aside to marinate briefly (about 5 minutes).
  5. Start by threading a cucumber slice onto the skewer as the base.
  6. Add a basil leaf (folded if large), followed by a marinated mozzarella ball, then a cherry tomato.
  7. Repeat this layering to fill the skewer, ending with a few blueberries clustered at one end to mimic the blue field of the American flag.
  8. Place the completed skewers on your serving platter with the blueberries all aligned on the same side to form the flag’s “star” section visually.
