This Spooky Bloody Halloween Punch is a terrifyingly delicious, sweet-tart party drink that looks like a horror movie prop. Made with simple fruit juices and a dramatic dry ice fog, it’s the perfect conversation starter for any Halloween gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups cranberry juice (100% juice)
  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 cup simple syrup
  • 1 liter ginger ale (chilled)
  • 1 block dry ice
  • Red food coloring (a few drops, optional)
  • 1 can lychees in syrup (drained)
  • 1 small jar maraschino cherries (drained, with stems)
  • Fresh or frozen raspberries (a handful)
  • Ice ring or large ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the ice ring a day ahead: Fill a Bundt pan halfway with water. Add raspberries, lychees, and cherries. Freeze for 4-6 hours, then add more water to fill and freeze overnight.
  2. Prepare the ‘eyeballs’: Drain lychees. Gently stuff a maraschino cherry into the hole of each lychee. Refrigerate until serving.
  3. Mix the punch base: In a large bowl, combine cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Whisk until combined. Add red food coloring if desired.
  4. Chill the base: Pour punch base into a punch bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours.
  5. Just before serving: Remove ice ring from Bundt pan by running the bottom under warm water. Float the ice ring in the punch bowl.
  6. Add the fizz: Slowly pour chilled ginger ale over the ice ring. Stir gently.
  7. Add the eyeballs: Gently drop prepared lychee ‘eyeballs’ and extra raspberries into the punch.
  8. Add dry ice: Using tongs and thick gloves, place a small piece of dry ice into the punch bowl. Do not consume dry ice. Wait until it sublimates completely before serving, or remove any remaining pieces with a slotted spoon.
  9. Serve immediately: Ladle punch into glasses, avoiding any dry ice pieces. Warn guests not to eat the dry ice.

Notes

Dry ice is extremely cold (-109°F) and can cause frostbite. Never handle with bare hands. Keep away from children and pets. The fog is safe to drink, but the solid piece is not. Always make an announcement when adding dry ice. For a boozy version, add 1-2 cups of vodka or white rum. For a kid-friendly version, skip the dry ice and use a regular ice ring.
